Bad and Good UX

In this post, I will be focusing on the identifying UX from my everyday life, identifying the good and bad user experience.

More and more people are talking about user experience (UX) and how it can be a differentiator in a crowded marketplace or a selling point for digital services. At its core, UX is about considering the needs of the people who will be using the product (website, app etc) you are designing and then going a step further and placing your users- not yourself or the CEO at the centre of the design process, it’s a fairly abstract concept, so let’s take a look at what good and bad UX design looks like through some concrete examples.

My first example is bad User experience. With the occasions that I am an employee of one supermarket in Dublin, my example will be about moving products in the store every now and then. To make it clearer, let me give you an example of a coffee that some time ago was in alley 12, and now it is moved to alley 14. You probably met with such an experience.

Working in a supermarket, I know it’s a marketing gimmick because before the client finds what he is looking for, he maybe buys something else. I know from experience that a lot of regular customers do not like changes in the store, and that means they are not satisfied, confused. And from my perspective, the store has a bad user experience.

Now is the time for a good User experience. For this example, I chose the debit card from Bank of Ireland.

I think the debit card is a good example because it takes up little space in the wallet, we do not have to carry a lot of cash with us. The new cards have a built-in chip which simplifies and speeds up payment without entering a pin code, and in addition, the transaction using the card is cheaper than the transaction when entering the pin code. In my opinion debit card, it is a good user experience.
